In the UNDP/GEF funded project "Preparation of the National Implementation Plan on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) under the Stockholm Convention" UNDP cooperated with State Environmental Service to explore and to carry out inventarization of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Within the cooperation framework the State Environnmental Service studied and carried out inventory of pesticides and their initial deposit sites, locations of PCB containing equipment, as well as identified the most significant sources of dioxins and furan, as well as participated in development of POPs data base. The inventory of PCB containing equipment yet is not completed.
In this project UNDP will continue cooperation with State Environmental Service. There are three main objectives:
- To facilitate finalization of PCB containing equipment;
- To create support system to companies for planning the disposal of PCB containing equipment;
- To improve legislative basis to ensure safe management of PCB containing equipment and waste.
